Lido beach “Ciamaur”
Would you like to lie on the beach, sun bath and enjoy the freshness of the water, although you are spending your holidays in the Dolomites? In San Vigilio, even this is possible. At a distance of about 1km from the village centre, towards the nature park, the Tourist Agency has created a lido beach beside the river “Rio Rudo”, which flows through the Marebbe Valley. Green patches, a fine-grained sandy beach, fresh and clear water, benches and tables and a hilly play ground for children. The whole is completed and decorated with wooden sculptures, the works of the last art symposiums. The lido beach “Ciamaur” was created only few years ago and has developed into one of the main attractions of San Vigilio in summer time. The admittance to the beach is free.
The legends of the pale mountains
In order to keep the Ladin traditions alive and especially the large patrimony of legends of the Pale Mountains, the Tourist Agency of San Vigilio has designed and created a thematic trail in the immediate surroundings of the village, which tells – stage by stage and board by board – the legends of the Dolomites, with the princesses Dolasila and Luianta, the knight Edl de Net, the false king and the warlock Spina de Mul.
The educational boards offer moreover lots of information about the history of the Ladin people, their language, traditions and customs and about the local rural architecture. Starting from the visitor centre of the nature park Fanes-Senes-Braies, the trail leads along the river, past a little lake and back to the visitor centre. The trail is broad and winds through flat land and is therefore suitable also for buggies. Families with children should not miss it!
